Protecting Employees Health

Vu Manh Thang - I Am Superman

Health is wealth and we don’t need a doctor to point that out. A human’s body is the most effective working tool that we have and a slight discomfort or dysfunction to any part of the body could affect a person’s work performance. Just imagine how a simple toothache can make the bravest man cringe in pain.

If you consider the growth and success of your business is your principal concern as a business owner, then what about your employees? Your employees are also another important aspect of your business – they exist to make your business run. So it is important, as well, to consider their well-being as an essential part of your business. Protecting your employees’ health is synonymous to protecting your business.

There are several things you can do to help promote a healthy lifestyle among your employees. First things first, you need to maintain a healthy and stress-free work environment. Make sure you have adequate ventilation inside the office; the right temperature (not too cold, not too hot); adequate lighting in the office; and comfortable working tables and chairs. Also encourage your employees to smile more, to laugh more. This would make them feel that your office is a cheerful and fun place to work in.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? Encourage your employees to eat the right kind of food. If you have a cafeteria, sell nutritious snacks or offer them better alternatives to your coffee or soda-vending machines. On your bulletin boards, you can post notes about the “Benefits of Eating Right” or  “How to Live a Healthy Lifestyle”.

Encourage your employees to quit smoking. You can emphasize the disadvantages of smoking to sway smokers to quit the bad habit. You can point out how smoking lowers the sperm count in men, and how smoking causes pre-mature aging in women.

Conduct seminars to highlight the advantages of living a healthy lifestyle. You can also organize sports activities during weekend. Sports will not only promote an active lifestyle but as well as encourage teamwork and camaraderie.
